Rude Britannia: Tate Britain's ribald revival of satiric art
A new Tate exhibition, opening today, celebrates 300 years of British comic art, from William Hogarth's 17th-century prints to contemporary cartoons by Gerald Scarfe and the Guardian's Steve Bell. Will Self dubs the show a 'confirmation of not just how deeply the satiric taproot is sunk into British soil, but how crucial its vigorous propagation has always been to our constitution'.
