Trigonometry is part of geometry. Human race started studying it since antiquity making quite a progress. In sentimental education, trigonometry is apparently one of the most difficult chapters. Human race shows no particular skills in it. It repeatedly examines the same issues in every part of the world with no signs of progress. In occidental countries the commedia dell´ arte teaches the subject for four centuries now, making no particular effect on its audience. How about aknowledging that in life any kind of trigon exists and shapes have never two corners?
The gracious and captivating serenata, sung by Beppe dressed as Arlecchino, ´O Colombina, il tenero fido Arlecchin...` comes from the second act of Ruggero Leoncavallo´s opera ´I Pagliacci`. A quite easy air that students learn early and succeed rarely. Ugo Benelli, an honourable italian tenore di grazia/tenore buffo and a star in supporting roles, if I may say so, recorded it with Herbert von Karajan and the orchestra of La Scala di Milano in 1982.

O Colombina,
il tenero fido Arlecchin
è a te vicin!
Di te chiamando,
e sospirando
aspetta il poverin!
La tua faccetta mostrami,
ch'io vo' baciar senza tardar.
La tua boccuccia. Amor mi cruccia!
Amor mi cruccia e mi sta a tormentar!
Ah! e mi sta a tormentar!
O Colombina, schiudimi il finestrin,
che a te vicin di te chiamando,
e sospirando è il povero Arlecchin!

transformingArt—25 de Abril de 2008 — Enrico Caruso Sings Di Quella Pira (Tremble, Ye Tyrants!) from 'Il Trovatore'. (Verdi) Recorded in 1906. This is one of my best version of this aria - I also love another version of Aureliano Pertile and Luciano Pavarotti.

merrihew—19 de Julho de 2007 — Caruso singing La Donna e Mobile from Verdi's Rigoletto for Victor in 1907. The correct playing speed is 75 rpm which I did not know when I uploaded this record. I played it at 78.26 rpm. Some of Caruso's earlier records played at much slower speeds and I have adjusted those postings accordingly.
