Throughout his career, Woody Guthrie experimented with various lyrical and musical styles. However, his best work invariably came from writing and singing about the causes and the people that he felt closest to: the workers, the unions, the poor dust bowl farmers, the downtrodden, and the oppressed. The album, Hard Travelin' includes this song, "Two Good Men" --about Sacco and Vanzetti, two immigrants executed for murder after an indictment and a trial that was inspired by politics and greed. The story of Sacco and Vanzetti still carries an ominous message. For those Americans concerned about the erosion of workers rights, the suspension of Habeas Corpus, the abandonment of the Geneva Conventions, unwarranted surveillance, and the imprisonment of alleged criminals without the right to a fair and speedy trial, the story of Sacco and Vanzetti should remain an ever-present reminder of our perilous times. -- Spadecaller

Chad Dughi e os Coal Porters são artistas que claramente assumem esta herança, quer na componente musical quer no posicionamento revelado pelas letras que interpretam, como é o caso desta, que a seguir se publica, da autoria de Sid Griffin, vocalista do grupo. Em todos os lugares por onde deambulava, no seu lar ou cruzando os mares só e encerrado numa qualquer prisão em comboios correndo planícies ou cantando algures no Maine o mundo inteiro era a casa de Wooody Guthrie. Com Cisco (1) a seu lado, orgulhoso da sua Pampa (2) natal, assim dançou, caminhou e vagueou, muito perto e muito longe andando aqui e ali, desde os cais de S. A luz que Woody Guthrie acendeu jamais se apagará. Tendo conhecido Woody Guthrie em 1938, tornaram-se companheiros inseparáveis, percorrendo os EUA, constituindo diversos grupos e participando activamente nas lutas sindicais, do movimento operário e na acção do Partido Comunista dos Estados Unidos, de que ambos foram militantes (2) Woody Guthrie nasceu em Okemah, no Oklahoma, mas após diversas tragédias que atingiram a família de seus pais, sua mãe acabou por se fixar em Pampa, no Texas, onde Woody viveu a sua adolescência. O primeiro grupo musical que integrou estava culturalmente muito ligado ao culto texano dos cavalos e da criação de gado (3) Bound for Glory é o título de um livro autobiográfico de Wooody Guthrie (além de poeta, compositor e cantor, foi igualmente interessante desenhador e um prolífico escritor) publicado pela primeira vez em 1943 e base para um filme do sobre a figura do cantor realizado em 1976 por Hal Ashby com o mesmo título (4) Em 1952, quando Woody tinha apenas 40 anos, foi-lhe diagnosticada uma doença neurológica degenarativa, a doença de Huntington, que o foi diminuindo progressivamente até ao seu falecimento em 1966
