Those were the days é uma canção creditada a Gene Raskin (falecido em 2004)que escreveu o texto em inglês para a canção russa Дорогой длинною ("Dorogoi dlinnoyu"), escrita por Boris Fomin (1900-1948) com texto do poeta Konstantin Podrevsky. A música (composta antes de 1917) trata da remanescência sobre a juventude e o idealismo romântico. . Russian Red Army Choir - Kalinka.

"Kalinka" might be the best-known Russian song of all time. It has been mistaken as being a genuine folksong, but was actually written in 1860 by the composer and folklorist Ivan Petrovich Larionov and first performed in Saratov as part of a theatrical entertainment that he had composed. Soon it was added to the repertory of a folk choral group.

The song celebrates a snowball tree, with a speedy tempo and light-hearted lyrics. Singers and dancers many a time get into a frenzied celebration of song and dance while performing this song. The actual content of the song cannot be translated, as it possesses many Russian expressions and words that can hold a double meaning and have no equivalent in other languages.

In 2003, Roman Abramovich bought Chelsea FC. Since then, "Kalinka" has been associated with the London based Football Club and is often played before or after important matches.

Farewell of Slavianka (Russian: Прощание славянки - Proshchanye Slavyanki) is a Russian patriotic march, written by the composer Vasily Agapkin in honour of the Bulgarian women bidding farewell to their husbands who left for the First Balkan War. The march premiered in Tambov in 1912 and was subsequently released as a single. Slavyanka means "Slavic woman".

A theory of some musicians is that the main tune of this march had originated as an anti-war protest song during the Russo-Japanese_War 1904-1905. In spite of being banned, it became very popular in Russia during that time, especially among the Russian soldiers.

The melody gained popularity in Russia and adjoining countries during World War I, when the Russian soldiers left their homes accompanied by this music. It was also used as an unofficial anthem of Admiral Kolchak's White Army.

It was commonly believed, erroneously, that prior to its use in the award-winning 1957 film The Cranes Are Flying, the song was banned in the Soviet Union due to associations with the tsarist regime and the counter-revolutionary movements. This was not the case. This march was published in an official collection of music for Red Army orchestras^[1], and it was recorded in the early 1940s by a military orchestra under Ivan Petrov (1906-1975), though different lyrics were used during that time. There are lyrics which are usually sung by the Red Army choir today.

Subsequently, several Russian and Polish composers attempted to write lyrics for this music. During the 1990s, the Yabloko party lobbied for the march to be adopted as the National Anthem of Russia, but without success. Currently, the march is recognized as the anthem of the Tambov Oblast. Ships cruising along the Volga and the Rossiya train which runs from Moscow to Vladivostok make use of the tune before departing. Train #2 (named "Ukraine" at the time) used to depart from Kiev to Moscow to the sound of this tune.

"Farewell of Slavyanka" was first used in movies in the 1957 film, The Cranes Are Flying. It has also featured in the film Charlie Wilson's War which is set around the Soviet war in Afghanistan.

Saint George's was a major decoration in the Imperial Russian Army of the time, awarded to soldiers, sailors, non-commissioned officers, warrant officers and junior officers for acts of courage, self sacrifice and distinction in battle to protect the Fatherland from attack. Hebrew version

A Hebrew version was written in 1945 by singer/songwriter Haim Hefer for the Palmach. In his version of the song, Hefer coined the phrase אָנוּ פֹּה חוֹמַת מָגֵן (We are a defensive shield) used by Israel Defence Forces when naming Operation Defensive Shield in 2002.^[2]

E "A Teta Assustada", filme que transcorre em ritmo pausado, não era o favorito para vencer no Festival de Berlim este ano. No entanto, recebeu o prêmio principal e vem agradando aos cinéfilos.

"A Teta Assustada" é o primeiro filme do Peru indicado na categoria de melhor filme em língua estrangeira. A história trata de uma garota chamada Fausta, que nasceu de um estupro sofrido por sua mãe durante duas décadas de violência rebelde no país.

"É algo muito importante para nós", disse à Reuters a diretora peruana Claudia Llosa, de 33 anos. "É como se nosso país estivesse mostrando sua memória ao mundo. Este filme mostra que, de algum modo, conseguimos arrancar algo de belo das trevas."

O diretor de "O Profeta", o francês Jacques Audiard, disse em comunicado à imprensa que se sente "espantado" e "imensamente grato" pela indicação de seu filme, sobre um jovem sentenciado a seis anos de prisão e obrigado a usar de sua astúcia para sobreviver a um perigoso enfrentamento entre quadrilhas.

O cineasta judeu Yaron Shani, que co-escreveu e co-dirigiu "Ajami" com o palestino Scandar Copti, disse que espera que a indicação ao Oscar atraia público a seu filme. Ambientado nas ruas do bairro Ajami, em Jaffa, o drama criminal trata das divergências entre os muçulmanos, cristãos e judeus da cidade.

Todos os diretores disseram que a indicação ao Oscar será um incentivo a seus filmes no difícil mercado de filmes em língua estrangeira nos Estados Unidos.

"Se meu filme ganhar o Oscar, isso será maravilhoso, é claro, mas a indicação é mais importante por transmitir a mensagem do filme e tentar chegar a mais pessoas", disse Shani à Reuters.

Tiana, a primeira princesa negra da Disney

Demorou, mas chegou: está previsto para este mês o lançamento da animação A Princesa e o Sapo, primeiro filme da Disney com uma princesa negra. Tiana é a protagonista, que se juntará ao time formado por Branca de Neve, Cinderela, Bela Adormecida, Ariel, Jasmine, entre outras. O clássico infantil será embalado por jazz e outros sons de Nova Orleans, cidade ícone da música negra e onde está uma das maiores comunidades afro-americanas do país.

Tiana é uma jovem independente

Tiana será a quarta princesa não branca das produções do estúdio. A primeira foi Jasime do filme Aladim em 1992, com características árabes. Em 1995 foi a vez da indígena Pocahontas e em 1998 da chinesa Mulan. Em época de 2D e 3D, "A princesa e o Sapo" retorna ao musical e ao conto de fadas sem abrir mão do acréscimo de alguns detalhes contemporâneos.

A protagonista é uma garota independente que não está atrás de casamento. Ela cresceu pobre em meio à ferveção de jazz na cidade de Nova Orleans. O sonho da garota é ter um restaurante e, para realizá-lo, trabalha duro.

O príncipe Naveen, por outro lado, é um bon vivant, apesar de falido. Quando uma mandinga o transforma em sapo, ele tem de achar uma princesa para beijar e voltar ao normal, e acaba encontrando Tiana. A Princesa e o Sapo é um conto baseado no romance para adolescentes A Princesa Enfeitiçada, escrito por E.D. Baker e que se passa em Nova Orleans, na década de 1920.

John Lasseter, executivo-chefe da Disney e dos estúdios de animação Pixar, disse que o filme retoma o processo de animação clássico feito a mão, em vez da animação computadorizada que se tornou o padrão da indústria. Em tempos de Barack Obama na Casa Branca, ele se referiu ao filme como "um conto de fadas americano".

The song that plays during the video is called "Farewell of Slavianka", a Russian patriotic march. There are Red Army choir versions of it on YouTube that are extraordinary.
